Mr. Somphone, together with his wife, Mrs. Vieng, and their two children, settled in a quiet village of Huaiywai in 1980.
They started growing coffee in 1995 on a four-hectare farm in the Bolaven Plateau. He is fortunate to find the perfect area with soil rich in volcanic nutrients. Mr. Somphone’s knowledge of farming was from his ancestors. He loves cultivating different kinds of coffee and always focusing on the quality of the beans. With these techniques, the family produced high-quality coffee beans which are very popular in Laos.
His wife, Mrs. Vieng, and their two children, also do their best in managing the farm. The children are skilled in picking coffee cherries and even in processing the beans. On the other hand, his wife takes extra care and very passionate about improving their coffee trees. The family also plants vegetables around the coffee trees, as well as in their backyard. Many farmers in the village look up to Mr. Somphone and his family. They have been a role model because of the high-quality coffee beans they produced.
During their free time, the family loves to eat together a variety of food like fish and chicken soup, vegetables, grilled meat and some fruits like longan and orange. They love watching TV or listening to music, while their son loves playing football.
