Howden, together with Slow, works directly with a smallholder coffee grower in Laos - Family Thong - with the aim of improving their livelihoods and the tree cover and plant diversity on the family's farms and surrounding areas. And of course, our aim is to serve great coffee for you!

In the beautiful mountains of Bolaven Plateau —Mr. Bounthong and his wife Mrs. Vy, have a coffee farm spanning 8 hectares Settling down in Phoudamkhaun village in 1975 — the family has been growing coffee by sustainable means for 8 years.

Mr. Bounthong and Mrs. Vy are skillful farmers — they select the best seedlings for planting coffee, and firmly believe that the protecting shade of trees creates the perfect conditions to grow high-quality coffee beans. The family honors sustainable farming and spreads the message for the conservation of nature to their family and neighbors.

Besides his love for growing coffee by sustainable means — Mr. Bounthong loves singing traditional songs of Laos and playing Petanque. He is also fond of white whisky with chicken soup and barbecue.
